International Recording Artist, Songwriter, Playwright and Actress Timotha Lanae's debut album RED received major critical acclaim, reaching #1 on the UK Soul Chart and landing on numerous UK radio presenters’ “Best of the Year” playlists. Her track, People Pleaser, was featured on the 'Soul Love 2014' compilation, which expanded her fan base exponentially – all captivated by her unique and hypnotizing voice. Timotha Lanae’s album REWIND did not disappoint as a follow up to RED. One reviewer states, “Her sound is unique and is displayed at its best on her latest album, REWIND.” REWIND reached #1 on the UK’s Sweet Rhythms Chart and #2 on The UK Soul Chart.
Timotha’s voice is not the voice of the stereotypical church-reared diva, rather her timbre is reminiscent of Erykah Badu while her overall soundscape has a peculiar ethereal quality leaning toward that of the legendary Rotary Connection. Accepting her non-stereotypical voice was a big part of her journey as an artist, songwriter and performer. Her journey towards self-acceptance and the song, Be You (REWIND), inspired her to create The BE U! Project, a community outreach initiative that encourages people of all ages to embrace themselves, flaws and all.
Timotha has collaborated and shared the stage with a number of world class musicians, producers and actors including Whoopi Goldberg, Brian D’Arcy James, and Alexander O’Neal. She has performed across the globe from South America to Japan, with performances at The Tokyo International Forum, The Jazz Café in London, The Club Bizz’Art in Paris, BB Kings in New York City and The Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C.
The Playwright/Actress
As a dancer, and stage/film actress, Timotha has performed in numerous commercial, film and theatrical productions including Hello Dolly (Dolly), West Side Story and Ragtime. She is currently working on her original musical REDdington. A sneak peak of the story of Eva Reddington can be seen in Timotha’s music videos Talkin To Myself, People Pleaser and My Man.
The Future
Timotha is currently working on a new concept album with a projected release of early 2016. She’s tight lipped about the full concept, but an insider divulges, “It’s something unexpected that will captivate a wide array of listeners, carving a place for her in the music scape as not only an artist but an innovator.”
